The West Indian Carnival is attended by one to three million annually in Brooklyn on Labor Day weekend. The highlight is an amazingly-vibrant parade along Eastern Parkway. Thousands of masqueraders dance on and around the elaborate floats to lively folk music. Vendors sell delicious ethnic food throughout the festival: codfish fritters, curried chicken, fish cakes, raw sugarcane, curried goat, coconut bread, sweet potato pie, oxtail, fried flying fish, breadfruit, rice balls and much more! Other vendors sell handcrafts like African sculptures, bead-work, and traditional items. Come for a taste of Caribbean culture.
