Church of the Saviour in the suburbs of Philadelphia held their annual Fall Festival on Friday evening, October 21. Due to weather, this was the first time in 10 years to hold it inside. Several members organized the huge event for the local community, complete with games, prizes, inflatables, food, and giveaways. The evening was lively and entertaining.
One of the items they gave away was a 24-language DVD of the JESUS Film, scripted from the gospel of Luke. Four international students fluent in a total of 7 languages (who were from India, Kenya, Iran, and Indonesia) led the charge by handing out over 200 DVDs. Other church members manned a table where visitors could pick up DVDs. Most DVDs had a sticker of the church’s contact info, so the visitors can get back in touch when they want. It was not only Internationals who were interested, but also many American families from the neighborhood wanted DVDs as well (all DVDs have English).
Many of the church members and visitors were dressed in costumes. Even, “Jesus” was present! And when Jesus when he was not posing with everyone who wanted selfies. he also was handing out DVDs about “Himself.”
The Gideons had a nearby table. In addition to giving the usual New Testaments, they were giving cards for the latest I-Phone app to access Scriptures (text and audio) in some 1300 dialects. This was especially interesting to international students. Everything the Gideons had was given away!
The night proved to be both fun and meaningful for the Delaware Valley and the Main Line for such a time as this. Clearly, God is “reaching the nations among us.”
